Hard drive Installation and Configurations
Visions Business Services
can install your hard drives(s). VBS has A+ Certified technicians to quickly install and configure your hard drive(s). Whether you need to replace a broken or full hard drive, install a second hard drive, configuire a RAID (redundant array of inexpensive disks), or create a NAS (network attached storage), VBS has the technical knowledge and experience to complete your installation. Our technical services are performed with the highest level of professionalism and efficiency.
What is a Hard drive?
A hard drive is a mass storage device found in most computers. Hard drives are used to store permanent data.
The data on hard drives can be erased and overwritten, many, many times. The hard drive is classed as a non-volatile storage device, meaning it doesn't require a constant power supply to retain the information stored (RAM does require constant power). Inside most hard drive are small round disk made of either an aluminum/alloy or a glass/ceramic composite. These are called platters, each hard drive platter is coated with a special magnetic coating enabling them to store data magnetically.
Hard drives come in many varieties:
Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA)
These hard drives are also known as Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) and Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics (EIDE) hard drives. The labels relate to the interface that is to connect the hard drive to the computers' motherboard. These hard drives make use of a 40 or a 80 wire cable with a 40-pin connector. These hard drives are being replaced by SATA hard drives.
Serial ATA (SATA)
These hard drives use a different connector than PATA hard drives. They also employ a different power adapter than IDE hard drives. The main difference between a SATA and a PATA hard drives is that a SATA hard drive is thinner and have a faster data interface than the PATA hard drives.
Small Computer System Interface (SCSI)
These hard drives are similar to IDE hard drives, but they spin at a higher rate in comparison to IDE and SATA hard drives. SCSI hard disks need a controller that operates the interface between the drives and the computer motherboard.
Solid State Drives (SSD)
These hard drives don't have of moving components. Typical hard drives are made of a spinning magnetic disk that performs the function of data storage, but SSDs use semiconductors for this purpose. Since there are no moving components, these hard disks are much faster and less likely to break down than other hard drives. Consequently, their price is a bit more than other hard drives.
No matter what type of hard drive you are interested in, VBS can provide the technical service, provide you with information and leave you confident that your data storage device (hard drive) is retaining your information. Our technical service includes setting the hard drive 'jumper' to the correct position; properly securing the hard drive within the computer case; and connecting all cables, ensuring that they are seated properly, clear of the computers' internal fans and not excessively twisted.
